“A Midwife in Amish Country is a moving book about accepting and growing into one’s calling, including the highs and lows of homebirth midwifery and lots of terrific birth stories! Kim Osterholzer is an engaging writer, inviting the reader to follow her through her years of apprenticeship serving women and families as they bring new life into the world.”
—Rahima Baldwin Dancy, author of Special Delivery, childbirth activist, and midwife (retired)
Rahima’s beautiful book was one of the first I read as a teenager interested in the strange new world of homebirth midwifery. It challenged my beliefs, filled me with hope and excitement, and became one of the rocks forming the foundation of who I am as a homebirthing mother and a homebirth midwife.
When I summoned up my courage and approached Rahima about reading and endorsing my book, I did it by writing a letter and sending it with a copy of the book to an address I found for her on line. A couple of weeks later she contacted me to say she’d received it and planned to read it over an up-coming vacation. The next thing I knew this wonderful endorsement was resting in my inbox and the realization I’d just been blessed by one of the forerunners of the homebirth midwifery movement swept over me with chills and tingles. What was utterly beyond my imagination thirty-two years previous—and in ever so many ways—had come to a most stunning fruition.
Thank you, Rahima, for going so bravely before us, and thank you for your blessing and your encouragement as I attempt to press into my own future. I will treasure who you are and the many gifts you’ve given all of us to the end of my days ♥
